The need to define terms - If I use a word which means one thing to me and something different to you, then we have failed to communicate. Many critically important words are used so frequently that there is an assumption that the same definition is shared by all. Frequently this is not the case and a great deal of confusion results. Much of what seems to be conceptual "disagreement" is actually nothing more than the confusion that results when words are not adequately defined. For example, there is a great deal of controversy around the word "God" but very little discussion about its meaning. "Spirituality" is another word that is used so carelessly so it tends to lose all meaning whatsoever.
In the spirit of Confucius' "Rectification of Terms", I profer the following definitions of terms used in this website.
